Emergent Hartmann's Procedure for Colon Perforation: Over a 10-Year Review of Single Center

The incidence of diverticular disease and colorectal cancer has been rising in Korea due toWesternized dietary habits and an aging population. Because patients undergoing emergency surgery present with rapidly changing physiological conditions and multiple risk factors, accurate risk prediction is essential. Several scoring systems, including APACHE II, SOFA, and p-POSSUM, have been introduced for mortality and morbidity prediction. This study aimed to compare the predictive performance of these models in patients undergoing emergency Hartmann's procedure for colonic perforation. Modified APACHE II demonstrated superior predictive ability and clinical utility for estimating morbidity and mortality afteremergency Hartmann's procedure and may be preferred for postoperative risk stratification.
