Induction of astaxanthin accumulation in Haematococcus pluvialis cells using excessive irradiance and nitrate starvation

초록

The cells were inoculated at 6.5*105 cell/mL and the experiments for astaxanthin production were conducted under six different light conditions and nitrate limiting condition. The surface light intensity was varied from 40 to 400 mmol m-2 s-1 by changing the number of fluorescent lamps. Nitrate concentration was sharply decreased to nitrate deficient conditions after 2 days. Under excessive light condition of 400 mmol m-2 s-1, the maximal productivity could be obtained as astaxanthin concentration of over 500 mg/L, highest value among the published results and 4.5 times higher than that under 40 mmol m-2 s-1.
