테란 바그(Terrain Vague)의 속성을 이용한 장소성 구현 방법에 관한 연구

초록

The main purpose of the study is to inquire how architecture properly intervenes in the 'terrain vague' that has been easily disregarded in the modern city, based on the understanding of the sense of place. The argument is focused on the architectural strategies for place-making of the 'terrain vague' through a study on diverse successful cases. The lexical meaning of the term 'terrain vague' , in French, includes 'vacancy', 'emptiness', and 'absence' while at the same time, it holds a seed for the future that remains indeterminate; that is, the most possible. Nevertheless, the contemporary modern architecture, which is insecure about the fact that objects in absent state autonomously continues their own values, tends to homogenize this kinds of space to be woven in the existing urban texture. Focusing on the issues involved in residual and vacant places in the city, the study attempts to explore, to examine ways to preserve the state of absence through architectural intervention in the sensitive and illogical realm, and to investigate the role of the 'terrain vague' that remains within the different structures composing a city and that helps the differences disclosed.
