The Controller and its algorithm for Powered Wheelchair based BLDC Motor

In this paper, we present the architecture of the developed controller and the algorithm for the powered wheelchair using BLDC motor. We compose the H-bridge circuit with N channel FETs for the motor drive and its control logic. We adopt over-current detection circuit to protect the motor and the whole circuit. For the straight navigation, we attach the hall sensors inside the BLDC motor. Compared with analog signal based controller, digital controller based MCU has an advantage that is easy to interface with extended input device controlled by a head or legs. For the MCU based controller, we suggest the control method based upon steering angle and evaluate its usefulness through the experiments.
