초록

This study was designed to examine the differences of cultural values between generations by investigating young Korean mothers rearing beliefs and comparing them with their mothers (grandmothers) The subjects were 130 pairs of young mothers with two-year-olds and their mothers (grandmothers) living in urban area. Total 24 five point scales about child rearing beliefs developed cross culturally by the investigators were used to measure the dimension of interdependence-dependence in child rearing beliefs. As hypothesized, Korean mothers had higher child rearing beliefs of interdependence than those of independence. Moreover, Korean grandmothers had higher child rearing beliefs of interdependence than young mothers whereas Korean young mothers had higher child rearing beliefs of independence than grandmothers. Interestingly, while Korean grandmothers had mainly child rearing beliefs of interdependence only. Korean young mothers had both child rearing beliefs of independence and interdependence.
