초록

In psychology, human beings have been viewed as an object of science and not as creators of science. Psychological theories are limited since they focus on biological basis (e.g., IQ) and individualistic values (e.g., self-esteem). Phenomenal academic and economic achievements in East Asia document the importance of incorporating human agency, creativity, and culture. Contrary to existing theories, results from East Asian families, schools, and organizations reveal the importance of belief in the acquisition of ability through effort, extrinsic motivation, social support and relational bonds. When agency and culture are incorporated, results prove to be more reliable, valid, and applicable
