Spontaneous resolution of the left subclavian obstruction in Takayasu’s disease

Spontaneous resolution of the arterial obstruction in Takayasu’s arteritis has been rarely reported. The authors report a case of spontaneous resolution of the obstruction of left subclavian artery in a young female. A female patient underwent bilateral coronary patch ostioplasty for both coronary ostial lesions complicated by Takayas’s arteritis at the age of 28. Concomitant left subclavian obstruction was seen at that time but left untouched. Surprisingly, a follow-up angiogram at 11-year interval revealed complete resolution of the left subclavian artery obstruction. Meanwhile, no specific medical treatment was given. As seen from the case, spontaneous remission of Takayasu’s disease do occur. The treatment strategy might be influenced by elucidating the evolution patterns of the disease.
