The Praturum(Praeteria + Futurum) City-A proposal for a new city in association with the future and the past of Seguin Island

초록

This study intends to propose a design to develop Seguin Island situated in the west suburbs of Paris to a new city. The site has been being in the stage of ongoing competitions. The requirements of the competition is to create specific sense of place through the continuity of time in association with the past and the future of the site. Therefore, the study attempts to make Seguin Island urban and architectural device by which the metropolitan and suburban Paris are converged on, to characterize the Island to be a new border space, and to develop the Island to be the center located between the city and the suburb. The main argument is focused on economic, social, and cultural renaissance in Paris brought by new urban architecture, and alternatives of image-making strategy for not only the city of Boulogne but also overall France. The study adopts the computer program called Rhino Scripting and Grasshopper to proceed the design. Keyword: Seguin Island, new town, connection(緣), boundary space, Rhino Scripting
