Intermittent calorie restriction efficiently increases yeast chronological lifespan
초록
Calorie restriction (CR) is one of the most well studied factors known to extend the health and lifespan of a wide range of species. In yeast, CR extends both replicative life span and chronological life span (CLS). Nevertheless, CR is difficult to practice for a long time. Thus, many researchers invest efforts to find ways to mimic the anti-aging effects of CR. Intermittent feasting (IF) is a CR mimetics that has been also known to provide beneficial effects as CR. In order to verify the effect of fasting, we cultured yeast under IF conditions and compared CLS of yeast grown in IF to that of normal and CR control groups. We also examined the effect of intermittent calorie restriction (ICR) on CLS. As the results, we observed that IF efficiently prolonged yeast chronological life span. Interestingly, ICR was even more efficient in CLS extension. Further molecular analysis revealed that both IF and ICR induces CLS extension by similar mechanism as CR.
