초록
The new generation of smart materials and structures technologies featuring a network of sensorsand actuators, control capability and computational capability has a tremendous impactupon the new design mechanism in diverse industries. This paper basically describes potential applications of smart materials for information storage devices. Various candidates are introduced, and two specific devices are explained in details. A piezoactuator-driven optical pick-up is devised and its control performance is evaluated throug implementation of a sliding mode controller. CD-ROM ER mount is also considered by presenting the effectiveness of vibration isolation as a function of electric field.
