A Monitoring Device of the Leakage Currents for Deterioration Diagnosis of ZnO Elements

This paper presents a developed monitoring device of resistive leakage current and a deterioration diagnosis technique for ZnO elements. The leakage current detection device and analysis program for ageing test and durability evaluation for ZnO element have been designed and realized. The third harmonic component of the leakage current may be used as an indicator to check whether the ZnO arrester is in good state or in bad. The proposed monitoring systems for both the resistive leakage current and the third harmonic current might be useful to develop a method of predicting the defect and performance deterioration of ZnO lightning arresters in power system applications.
