Lioning in North-Eastern China with its capital city of Shenyang,is one of the important areas where more than two hundred thirty thousand of Korean-origin Chinese people out of around two million in total are living in many cases in a form of community exclusively composed of the Koream origins. Since the first settlement of a Korean family in 1906, the number of immigrants increased following the Japanese annexation of Korea in 1910. The Koreans thus settled down in this area introduced the cultivation of rice together with their way of life based on the long history an d tradition. In spite of the harsh geological and climatic condition together with socio-culutral barrier, they could adapt themselves to the new and difficult situation to create their own community manifesting the capacity and ethnic merits so eminent among many minor race groups in China. This study mainly consists of the surveys of the present situation of traditional housing still remaining in the town of Manrong, a Korean community of four thousand inhabitants in the outskirt of Shenyang. Development process of Korean communityies in the town as well as in the ciy of Shenyang as a whole was also reviewed in order to be able to grasp the whole picture in the light of socio-economic mutation now rapidly going on in China. At present most of the traditional thatched roof housing was demolished for the construction of new houses, The remaining fouteen cases were surveyed by individual visits and interviews with the owners, the result of which was given in the form of sketches and pictures.
