CT of small bowel obstruction mimicking postoperative adhesive ileus

CT has been known to be useful for the evaluation of small bowel obstruction and its characteristic findings are well established on radiologic literature. Although the failure of visualiation of obstructive site is interpreted as postoperative adhesive band, the enexpected causes of small bowel obstructions are proven by operation. The purpose of this exhibition is to describe the clinical and radiologic findings of surgically proven small bowel lesions mimicking postoperative adhesive band. Our cases included the jejunal obstruction with tuberculosis, ileal stricture with Crohn's disease, ileal adhesion with sclerosing peritonitis, jejunal obstruction with idiopathic peritoneal band, and internal hernia of ileum through the mesenteric defect of Meckel's diverticulum, mid-gut volvulus in adolescent patinet, pseudoobstruction with severe paralytic ileus. A careful analysis of this findings may suggest the clue for diagnosing the unusual causes of small bowel obstruction.
