Concurrent chemo-and radiotherapy for advanced cervical cancer

초록

Background: This study was performed to evaluate the effectiveness of Concurrent chemo-and radiotherapy in patients with advanced cervical cancer(stage IIB through IVA). Methods: From October 1996 to March 2001, 27 patients with a diagnosis of advanced cervical cancer were treated with concurrent chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Their median age was 51 years with range 35 to 75 years. They were recieved either 45Gy of radiation to the pelvis and paraaortic lymph nodes or 45Gy of radiation to the pelvis alone plus daily low dose cisplatin (fifth weekly for 4 weeks) or 5-FU plus cisplatin(day 1∼3, repeated every 3weeks, total 3∼6 cycles). The low dose cisplatin group was 19 patients and 5-FU plus cisplatin group was 8 patients. Patients were then to recieved one or two applications of low-dose-rate intracavitary radiation. Results: The median duration of follow-up was 39.5 months. Estimated cumulative rates of survival at five years were 62 percent. The median duration of radiotherapy was 55 days. The rates of distant metastases and locoregional recurrences were 33% and 67%. The neutropenia of ≥grade 3 was in 10 patients and moderate nausea, vomiting was in 5 patients. The 3 patients had bladder abnormality of grade 3. Conclusion: Concurrent chemo-and radiotherapy was effective treatment for advanced cervical cancer and associated with a tolerable toxicity
