Background: There are few methods available to diagnose Raynaud’s phenomenon. We introduce 99mTc-HDP digital blood flow scintigraphy. Methods: Forty-four secondary Raynaud’s syndrome patients, 13 primary Raynaud’s disease and 60 control persons were recruited. After chilling one hand by immersing it into 4 oC water for 30 seconds, the patient rested in a 22 oC room for 15 minutes, and then an intravenous bolus of 740 MBq of 99mTc-HDP was injected. The radioactivity from the second to the fifth fingers of both hands was recorded every two seconds for 300 seconds. We calculated four ratios by comparing the activity curves of the chilled hands with those of the ambient hands. The chilled to ambient ratios of the initial slope, the height of the first peak, the initial thirty second area under the curve and the blood pool uptake at the 4 minutes after injection were calculated. And scintigraphic characteristics were found. They were a focal radioactivity defect in the blood pool image, the initial spike curve and a slowly progressing curve pattern of the radioactivity curve.
