Synthesis and Characterization of Titania Core/Polymer Shell Nanoparticles

Inorganic core/polymer shell hybrid nanoparticles were successfully prepared by using the titania nanosphere template. Spherical titania particles with narrow size distribution were produced by sol-gel synthesis using titanium tetraethoxide as a titania precursor. In the reaction mixture, a silane-coupling agent containing double bonds was added for the further reaction with organic compounds onto the surface of the titania particles. Titania sol was annealed at high temperature in an attempt to convert from amorphous to rutile phase. By adding various monomer species and further polymerization titania core/polymer shell nanoparticles were prepared.
