Application of coil type IRE electrode to bile duct of miniature pig model ; Analysis of safety and ablation efficacy

초록

Irreversible electroporation ( is considered as one of the promising techniques for non invasive treatment of cholangiocarcinoma We fabricated a prototype IRE electrode that can be inserted into the lumen of the bile duct by winding a copper wire on the surface of the catheter shaft 6 Fr. The bile duct of miniature pig Sus scrofa was exposed through laparotomy rather than endoscopy to determine the exact insertion position of the electrode as well as to visually observe muscle contractions caused by electrical stimulation After the electrode was inserted into the bile duct, and then monophasic square pulses were delivered by IRE 1 kV 0 1 ms duration time, 60 13 pulses, 5 mm electrode gap The parameters indicating vital signs (heart rate, respiratory rate, capillary refill time, mucous membrane color) of pig were within the normal range both before and after IRE We found that apoptosis induced biliary cell death was induced by IRE through TUNEL analysis The tissue structure was partially attenuated and the tubular structures around the ablation zone maintained their intact shape We found that the coil type IRE electrode induces an ablation effect in the bile duct tissue in response to the stimulation of electric pulse
