Comparison between the Super In-Plane Switching and Modified Super In-Plane Switching Display Modes

In this paper, we report a numerical study on the optical and electrical characteristics of the super in-plane switching mode and modified super in-plane switching mode for comparison. In the S-IPS mode, directors on the edge of an electrode are deformed due to the electric field that induces a disclination area. The modified S-IPS mode demonstrates a better transmittance and wider viewing angle than those of the S-IPS cell.
