A crossmatching system for various types of fingerprint scanners

A cross-matching fingerprint recognition system is a person authentication system based on fingerprints and utilizing different types of fingerprint readers. It should be able to overcome variations in fingerprint images acquired by different readers, such as the size, resolution, contrast of images. Proposed in this paper is a fingerprint recognition algorithm suitable for a cross-matching system. As a preliminary experiment, the performance of the proposed algorithm has been evaluated in terms of equal error rates and compared to those of a minutiae-based algorithm. The experimental result demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm by decreasing its EER by 8.5% in average compared to the minutiae-based algorithm.
