Fatigue life estimation of mechanical structures

The fatigue is one of the most prevalent failure modes in engineering structures. And it is known to be very complicate to analyze their behaviors under varying loads. However, significant developments in analyzing damaged structures have accomplished following the progresses of fracture mechanics. In this research, we apply the over/under loading on CCT specimens made of API 5L X42 (which is used as the gas pipeline) to analyze the influence of the over/under loading on fatigue crack propagation. We used the Fatigue Life Prediction (FLP) program developed by the authors. The experimental fatigue crack propagation behaviors were compared with results obtained by using the Fatigue Life Prediction (FLP) program.
