GeP3 and its nanocomposite anodes for Li- and Na-ion batteries

"A GeP3/C nanocomposite, synthesized by a simple high energy mechanical milling (HEMM) technique, was investigated as high-capacity anode materials for rechargeable Li- and Na-ion battery systems. The GeP3/C nanocomposite was comprised of well dispersed nanocrystalline-GeP3 within amorphous carbon matrices, which was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The electrochemical Li- and Na-ion reaction mechanisms were charaterized by ex situ XRD and extended X-ray absorption fine structure analyses. On the basis of the interesting reaction mechanisms, the GeP3-based nanocomposite electrodes exhibit excellent electrochemical performances such as initial Coulombic efficiencies, stable cyclability, and fast rate capabilities"
