ABSTRACT:T-stub connections under the axial tensile load have various initial stiffness, yield strength, failure mode and stress distribution according to changes of thickness of T-stub flange and gauge distance, number, and diameter of high-strength bolt. In this study, T-stub connections with 12mm and 15mm T-stub flange and 210mm gauge distance of F10T-M20 high-strength bolts were selected to perform experiments and finite element analysis. Through these experiments and analysis, the initial stiffness, yield strength, failure mode and stress distribution of the T-stub connections were identified, compared and reviewed. In addition, considering the stress distribution that occurs on T-stub flange, the new geometric shapes of T-stub eliminated the less stress concentration part were suggested. And experiments and finite element analysis about the new geometric shape of T-stub were performed. The initial stiffness, yielding strength and failure mode of the new geometric shape T-stub connections were compared with the values of ordinary shape T-stub connections. From this study, we can confirm that the initial stiffness, yielding strength and failure mode of T-stub connections with new geometric shape are similar with the values of ordinary shape T-stub connections. Therefore, it is judged that if further studies are conducted to derive a optimal T-stub connection, a new shapes of T-stub with equal or greater with mechanical specifications will also be possible.
