Extended Mind Thesis and Externalist Theory of Meaning

초록

If the mind is extended so that the locus of cognitive process such as perception and conceptualization would not be confined to the inside of one’s cranium, or even of one’s skin, we should say that the boundary of oneself does not coincide with the physical boundary of one’s body, but the former extends beyond the latter. With respect to the extended mind thesis I ask some questions: 1) What does the thesis of extended mind imply to the externalist theory of meaning? 2) Is it right to say that we can have (rather easily, as Pedersen & Bjerring(forthcoming) describe) extended beliefs?
