초록
This study applies physical energy efficiency indicators to assess energy efficiency improvements in the Korean manufacturing sector in the period 1992 to 2000. As expected, iron & steel, cement, petrochmical and pulp & paper industries recorded energy efficiency improvements. The reason of the increase (deterioration) in the energy intensity in manufacturing subsectors was a slower growth of the value added production than the energy consumption due to price falls of bulk products in the world market. Restructuring of energy intensive industries is regarded to reduce the energy consumption or its growth rate in the manufacturing sector.
