Setting the Fiber Model for Estimating the Allowable Displacement of Steel Bridge Piers Based on Cyclic Loading Experiments

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the method for determining the seismic performance of rectangular steel piers using the fiber model. In particular, the ratio of allowable strain to yield strain (Φ/Φy) and the ratio of allowable curvature to yield curvature (Φa/Φy) are considered as parameters for expressing the seismic performance criterion of allowable displacement for steel bridge piers. A bilinear model is used to simulate the stress strain relationship. The results show that strain is affected by loading pattern considerably, whereas curvature is hardly affected at all. Since there are many types of seismic waves and only one allowable displacement for each steel bridge pier, curvature is thus preferred over strain as the parameter for estimating the allowable displacement of steel bridge piers
