초록

The status of agricultural production in North Korea has been a great concern to the international community and the government of South Korea, since it is closely related to the national agricultural policy and the humanitarian aids activities. This study has been conducted to identify maize fields in cultivation and to select pertinent season for accurately classifying maize area using satellite imagery. Hwang-Ju area, near the southern portion of Pyungannam-do, was selected for this study. Multi-temporal LANDSAT TM data were analyzed. After preliminary processing, each temporal data set was separately classified into minimum number of land cover classes. Classification results showed that the TM data obtained at the time of reproductive stage of maize had the highest accuracy to separate the cornfields.
