The thermal and mechanical properties rock mass around an underground research tunnel in granite body

초록

An underground research tunnel, KURT, was constructed for the validation of the Korean reference high-level radioactive waste disposal system and various in situ tests are undergoing in KURT. In order to plan the in situ tests and to analyze the results from the tests, the understanding of the thermal, hydraulic, and mechanical properties around the tunnel is essential. In this study, the thermal and mechanical properties around KURT were analyzed based on laboratory tests, in situ borehole tests, and theoretical estimation. It was possible to figure out the depth effect on the properties and to predict the variation of the properties along the tunnel.A computer modelling was done with the properties to understand the thermal and mechanical behaviors after excavation of KURT.
