Rigorous Calculation of All the Capacitances Existed in the Pixel of TFT-LCDs

We rigorously calculated for the first time all the inter-electrode and pixel capacitances of TFT-LCDs by simulating the electrical energy distribution within the liquid crystal cell. The enerry distribution is obtained from the 3-dimensional profiles of potential distribution and molecular director. In the simulation, the effects of lateral fields and a finite pixel size are taken into account. The resultant pixel capacitance for our pixel structure is about 40% larger than that of one-dimensional simulation.
