The purpose of this paper is to examine the psychological, social, and cultural basis of anti-American sentiments in South Korea. Although many national studies have been conducted to examine facets of anti-American sentiments in Korea, they are mainly opinion polls and survey that fail to examine the psychological and cultural dynamics (Kim, Harajiri, & Cho, 1997). The goal of the present paper is to provide an indigenous psychological analysis (Kim, 2000; Kim, Park & Park, 1999, 2000) of anti-American sentiments in South Korea using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
