Traffic-related air pollution and patterns of cancer incidence in Inchon, Korea

Environmental factors are thought to play an important role in the etiology of human cancers. We did an ecological study, in which we classified Inchon into three areas according to the levels of air pollution, and compared the air pollution concenturations and the cancer incidence in these areas. There was a differential distribution of cancer incidence across the city. The area of highest air pollution has the highest SIR, that of intermediate level of air pollution hs the intermediate SIR, and the area of lowest air pollution has lowest SIR. Therefore further study will be nedded to clarify the relationship between the air pollution and cancer incidence.
