The main problems of today's urban restoration lie in too much emphasis on external appearances. Historical restoration as a method to revive urban space, in particular, verges on rather the construction of monuments celebrating political achievements than the preservation of history and the trace of old times. This study attempts to point out the exclusive(or unfriendly) attributes of today's trends of historical restoration that usually invades the everyday life of the city while observing the Se-Jong Ro area which has been restored in 2009, and to criticize the today's urban regeneration projects that tend to create hierarchical order unnecessary in the city space through monumental places of political authority. Then, the study intends to understand the surroundings' changing process in the respect of urban architecture, and to propose an alternative design that prevent the convergency of places(緣) from being discontinued. The main argument focuses on how others' discourse that is always homogenized by the subject can be operated as a critical alternative against today's trends of development and restoration occurred in Seoul. Then, the study exercises a design experiment in order to develop and propose a methodology refining the unfriendly authority that belongs to a so called historical restoration. keyword : revival of space, Historical restoration, Se Jong Ro, Monumental space, Convergency,
