Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is one of the most common nutritional deficiency disorders in infants and young children, prolonged breast milk feeding without proper weaning food replacement results in IDA. Even though mothers have appropriate knowledge on weaning diet, IDA still exists. The diagnostic value of IDA, including ferritin or transferrin saturation level, was limited in infants and young children with various illnesses. For an improvement of nutritional status, especially for infants with an iron deficiency, nutritional education for mothers with infants at the weaning age has to be increased and related programs have to be implemented effectively.
