A Study on Applying an AI-based Paraphrasing Tool, Editpad, to English Writing Education: Advanced English Writing

초록

The purpose of this study is to devise an effective teaching method to enhance students’ English writing abilities, verifying the educational efficiency and validity of Editpad, an AI-based paraphrasing tool, as a teaching aid in the elective English course “Advanced English Writing.” To examine the effectiveness of Editpad, a statistical analysis was conducted in terms of convenience, satisfaction, usefulness, reliability, and motivation induction. In experiments 1 and 2, participants perceived the concise design that facilitated easy comparison between paraphrased results and original sentences. Positive perceptions were noted for the Smooth mode and synonym features, improved vocabulary, sentence structure skills, writing proficiency, and plagiarism search function through Editpad usage. These participants’ perceptions were considered as the influential factors that ultimately increased interest and motivation for sentence-level as well as paragraph-level learning.
