Applied mechanics has a vast area, and few significant contributions need to choose from previous research that has the essence of designing the different aeronautics/mechanical structures for a specific domain. From analysis/design theories to material and failure mechanics selection, third-order, layerwise, high deformable shell elements, nonlocal and polar continua, advanced materials, and fracture study are valuable theories in designing and developing engineering structures made by different forms such as beams, plates, shells, laminates, etc. These important theories need to reach the engineering and research community with related improvements by different researchers and possible future studies. Previous research is essential to cover and introduce the theoretical development of these theories such as the start to modifications (viz., theories states covered by Reddy and modified/improved by different researchers) for introducing possible future openings. Therefore, development has been covered from the early to the current stage with modifications by researchers. The works are summarized to get the associated concepts, limitations, and advancements. It is observed that there are potential findings and opportunities in the past studied theories that can be adopted and covered with greater versatility in upcoming research for the design and development of aeronautics/mechanical structures. Thus, this review is helpful for research colleagues in the same domain.
