Characteristics of DME Injection with a Mechanical High Pressure Pump

초록

DME(Di-methyl ether) is a promising fuel to be used for compression ignition engines, because its cetane number is high. In order to help understand its characteristics, the various physical properties of DME were calculated in this work. A bulk modulus of DME was also measured over the range of pressures(40~250bar) and temperatures(-3~53oC). The injection characteristics, such as amount of fuel, spray pattern, leakage and injection delay, for DME and light oil, were measured with an in-line mechanical fuel pump. This work revealed that the injection delay varies with the length of a pipe between an injector and a pump, which indicates that the length of a pipe needs to be optimized for DME fuel supply system
