Purpose: This study was done in order to provide basic data for the development of nursing intervention and contribute to early detection of colonic cancer by identifying that influencing factors on intention of taking and actual taking of colonoscopy. Methods: The subjects of this study were 194 subjects who visited the University hospital in urban area for their health check up examination. A questionnaire survey was carried out, which were then analyzed by using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Χ2-test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and logistic regression analysis. Results: 81 subjects out of 194 subjects answered that they had colonoscopy for the early detection of colonic cancer. There was a statistically significant positive correlation between self-efficacy and intention of taking colonoscopy(r=.640, p=.000), but negative correlation was found between fatalism and intention of taking colonoscopy(r=-.337, p=.000). In analysis of those subjects taken the colonoscopy, there were significant difference in self-efficacy(t=3.825, p=.000), fatalism (t=-2.523, p=.012) and intent to colonoscopy(t=3.914, p=.000). Self-efficacy and income variable were significant predictors of intent to colonoscopy, and accounted for 43.1% of the total variance. Intention for the colonoscopy was a significant factor for the prediction of taking colonoscopy(CI= 0.752~0.919, p=.000). There was 83.2% increase in probability, when the grade of intent for examination increase with 1, compare to probability of not taking examination. Conclusion: This study revealed that self-efficacy and fatalism were influencing factors on intention to taking colonoscopy and actual taking of colonoscopy examination. Considering these findings, the strategy to increase taking the colonoscopy by enhancing self-efficacy and reducing fatalism is needed.
