A Design Proposal for a New Collective & Collaborative Commons on an Old Community Evolved along the Old Railcar Line

As the society has turned to be driven by post capitalistic system, today’s communal living with collective intelligence is not any more satisfied by typical modern city planning. It arrives at the point when a new type of commons is needed. The study, targeting on the axis of old Kyoungsung railcar-line that had played a key role in urban metabolism between the center and the edge of the city, and that has evolved into a single linear building block leading to community severance by which the neighboring context is turned to so called a ‘no man’s land’, attempts to develop a strategy to build a new urban community. Focused on how to resolve a conflict concealed behind the modern city planning, the project intends to investigate the significances of today’s socio-cultural environment, to decompose the 440-meters-long linear structure in a gentle manner, and to propose urban village as a platform that embraces the values for the new communal life.
