Product Asset Lifecycle Management system supported by Product Embedded Information

Recently, not only the integration of product data during design and production but also effective management of information during operation lifecycle has received increasing attention from both shipyards and ship owners due to the recycling regulation and efficient operation. Generally, PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) supports a collaborative environment during the BOL (Begin of Life) stage, while PALM (Product & Asset Lifecycle Management) provides all the product information required to maintain, overhaul, discard, and recycle all parts of the marine vessel during the MOL (Middle of Life) and EOL (End of Life) stages. In this paper, we propose a five-Tier PALM system that can be used to utilize lifecycle information during MOL emphasizing the PEID (Product Embedded Information Device) and communication method. Besides, we also have suggested a configuration in which lifecycle information can be collected by PEID based upon the microcomputer and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) communication. The configuration of PALM is implemented, whereby each part or equipment of the vessel is identified with RFID and ZigBee that connects the part and the maintenance information so it can be augmented on the physical part.
