Review of Combustion Calculation Method in Environmental Regulation Standards and Proposal of a New Method

In this study, the derivation principle and calculation formula of the British calculation method, which is the basis of the domestic combustion calculation method, were generalized, and the combustion calculation method used in Korea were arranged. In addition, the differences between the combustion calculation methods used in British and Korea were analyzed in detail. A new combustion calculation method based on the total reaction equation for equivalent fuels was proposed to supplement for the inconvenience and problems of domestic combustion calculation methods that apply different combustion calculation methods for each fuel state. To examine the feasibility of the aforementioned British and domestic and newly proposed combustion calculation methods, the differences dry exhaust gas and air ratio were compared for four types of single fuel and two types of mixed fuels with different compositions. Furthermore, several air ratio calculation formulas were introduced in the three types of calculation methods, and problems and corrections of Korea’s air ratio calculation formulas were proposed. © 2024 The Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers.
