Assessment of Preliminary Concept for Big Data in Construction Management
초록
The information technology industry has shown a dramatic increase of the amount of data over the past decade. Most data existing in the world today has been produced in the past three years. Governments and companies worldwide have been focusing on developing efficient methodologies to analyze this massive quantity of data. This trend has become one of the most important issues in the information technology industry, and is called “big data.” A precise definition of big data does not yet exist, although there are many ambiguous definitions made by numerous researchers. Big data analytic concepts, however, have currently presented interesting predicting results on various industrial fields. It suggests that one of methods of establishing preliminary application methods for predicting construction performance using construction raw data collected from construction sites would be a big data analysis. In accordance with the hypothesis aforementioned, we studied numerous big data concepts from various fields, and focused on feasible ideas that can be used in the construction industry. We believe that our results can contribute to future studies of raw construction data analysis based on big data analytic methodologies.
