An Experimental Study on Cryogenic Fatigue Performance of SUS 304L Membrane for KC-1 LNG Cargo Containment System

Type 304 stainless steel or Invar steel with excellent cryogenic performance are used for membrane-type LNG cargo containment system, such as Mark-III and NO. 96. In this paper, tensile tests and fatigue tests were carried out at room temperature, low temperature(-100℃) and cryogenic temperature(-163℃) in order to ensure the properties of the SUS 304L intended to be in the Korean LNG CCS(KC-1). Experiments for SUS 304(8% Ni) and SUS 304L(9% Ni, 10% Ni) to compare the properties of the materials being used were also carried out. Through these experiments, it was confirmed the characteristics of the materials for the carbon content and nickel content changes. In addition, the results of this study were compared also with some other studies.
