Effect of Neurotoxin in an Unknown Nemertine on Astrocyte

Lineus alborostratus increases mortality rate of alevin in eel aquaculture industry giving fisherman huge losses. Neurotoxin in L. alborostratus was refered to the reason why L. alborostratus has shown negative effect on alevin. Ethanol extract of L. alborostratus was analyzed with liquid chromatography to check the component. As a result, neurotoxin of L. alborostratus has similarity with tetrodotoxin except simple polysaccharide chain. Moreover, cytotoxicity of the extract was confirmed on astrocyte which is abundant cells in the brain by MTT assay. Viability of astrocyte treated with over 300 ng/ml was decreased in a concentration dependent manner. However, less than 300 ng/ml of the extract have not shown negative effects on astrocyte. Additional research for the extract of L. alborostratus is needed.
