『네 개의 서명』과 디지털 지도그리기
초록
This article demonstrates how Digital Mapping can enrich literary interpretation and digital-humanities education by visualizing the spatial dimensions of narrative. Using The Sign of the Four (1890) as an example, it explores how mapping reveals underlying relationships among places in the text and translates narrative movement and affect into spatial experience. A central process is gazetteer making—the transformation of literary place references into structured, machine-readable data that enable visualization and spatial analysis. Through this method, mapping complements event-based readings by bringing spatial connectivity and scale into view, offering students both a replicable digital-humanities practice and a fresh interpretive lens. The paper suggests that digital cartography bridges close reading and computational analysis, providing a practical yet imaginative framework for exploring how narrative meaning unfolds through the spatial organization of story.
