Intramembrane proteolysis of epithin/Prss14 [tpmpyrd metastastic conversion

Epithin/PRSS14, a type II membrane serine protease, is known to play critical roles in tumor progression and metastasis by inducing proteolytic degradation and/or activation of its substrates. While the protease-activity dependent fucntions of epithin/PRSS14 is known to be regulated by its ectodomain shedding, the fate of the membrane-associated remant after shedding has been largely ignored. Here we show that the epithin/Prss14 intracellular domain (EICD_ can be released from the membrane after ectodomain shedding and the resulting EICD referentially localized in the nucleus.
