Iranian Seljuk Geometric Design and Early Goryeo Buddhist Geometric Design
초록
It was recently revealed that Gyeseongsa Temple Site(啓星寺址) in Hwacheon(華天), built during the Goryeo(高麗) Dynasty, had a hexagonal shape. The modern cultural value of the regular hexagon originates from Mesopotamia, and the regular hexagon has been used extensively in Islamic architecture. Therefore, in this article, we presented the exchange between Silla(新羅)- Goryeo and Islam as an important basis for using hexagonal shapes in the construction of Gyeseongsa Temple, compared to most of the temple sites being square.
