The Method of Revitalization Regarding Dongnimmun Through Linkage of Expanded City and Historical Places

This article is about the method of incorporating revitalization regarding linkage of expanded city and historical places into internal of city due to the expansion of the city. The selected site for the design is Seodaemungu, Seoul, republic of Korea and this region was damaged by modernization plan. In other words, this site is a cross-section of different historical factors that merged into an ultimate fragmentary acknowledgement called, ‘Independence’, which exhibits the dark history of Seoul along its rapid growth dark side of Seoul due to the rapid growth. This article is going to focus on means of coexistence of historical objects with different properties and eras. Thus, The main argument is focused on how to link the historical place with the existing city programs, how to revitalize the "independent park" to become a practical urban program instead of being just a symbolic gesture of historical restoration, and how to make this place deliver the true meaning of independence within the daily city life. Also, the article is proceeded with the architectural design that revitalize modern architectural relics by reflecting the current circumstances of cities instead of stuffed restorations of modern architectural relics.
