The purpose of this research is to investigate the family environment and parent-child relationship among adolescents under probations. The adolescents were differentiated by the following five criteria: 1) the duration of probation, 2) the number of times they ran away from home, 3) the type of crimes, 4) their student status, and 5) educational level. The sample consisted of (n=188) adolescents under probation and their parents (n=147) completed a survey developed by the second author. The results indicate that those adolescents who did not live with their parents are more likely to be repeat offenders. They are less likely to trust their family members. Second, adolescents under probation are more likely to experience conflict with their parents. Third, the repeat offenders are more likely to experience parent-child conflict and the conflict to increase. The results also indicate that both parents and adolescents need to maintain a positive parent-child relationship in order to decrease delinquent behaviors.
