The relationship between job stress and job satisfaction in clinical trial nurses (CRN)

Purpose: This correlational study was undertaken to investigate the relationship between job stress and job satisfaction of clinical trial nurses. Also the level of job stress as well as the major contributing factors of the stress were identified in clinical trial nurses which the informations will form the basis of intervention that improve job satisfaction by clinical trial nurses. Method: Data were collected from 11 university research center in 8 areas of Korea from July 1st to July 31, 2012. The total number of one hundred twenty four research subjects were participated and they completed Job Stress of Clinical Trial Nurses Scale and Job Satisfaction of Clinical Trial Nurses Scale. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: The mean score of clinical trial nurses' job stress was 2.68 out of 5 and the mean score of job satisfaction by clinical trial nurse was 2.96 out of 5. There was a significant difference between job stress and clinical trial nurse who was previously working as clinical nurse or non-clinical nurse (F=4.59, p<.001) and number of on-going researches (F=4.59, p<.001). In terms of general characteristics of clinical trial nurse, there were significant differences between the job satisfaction and salary (F=4.65, p=.011). and number of on-going researches (F=2.02, p=.045). Finally clinical trial nurses with experience of clinical trial training showed higher job satisfaction compare to those without the experience (F=1.99, p=.049). There was significiant negative correlation between job stress and job satisfaction by clinical trial nurses (r=-.39, p<.001). Conclusion: As the result of this research, the correlation between job stress and job satisfaction by clinical trial nurses were confirmed.
