Perovskite-structured semiconducting oxide powders were coated with oxides such as Na2O and MnOx by wet-chemical methods. The coating materials were present at the grain boundaries of the polycrystalline ceramics, which were prepared by hot-pressing the surface-coated powders. A systematic variation of the electrical and chemical characteristics of teh grain boundaries was observed with the amount of the coating materials, indicating the possibility of using this method for better control of the electrical properties of the ceramics.
