Metadynamic and Static Recrystallization of 304 Stainless Steel

The softening mechanisms of static recrystallization (SRX) and metadynamic recrystallization (MDRX) of 304 stainless steel have been analyzed by torsion tests in the temperature ranges of 900-1100℃ and the strain rate ranges of 0.05-5/sec. The strain (e) was found to be a key parameter to induce the MDRX and SRX, among the deformation variables such as strain (e), strain rate (e), interpass time (ti), and temperature (T). The fraction of recrystallization showed a constant value beyond the critical strain (ec) for dynamic recrystallization. The times for 50% static recrystallization and 50% metadynamic recrystallization could be determined as t0.5SRX = AD0mep eq exp[Q/RT] and t0.5MDRX = AD0m eq exp[Q/RT], respectively. Comparison of the softening kinetics between the MDRX and SRX showed that the rate of MDRX was more rapid than that of SRX at the same deformation variables. Under the same deformation variables, the recrystallized grain size of MDRX was smaller than that of SRX.
